Here lie I, between earth and sky,
Think upon me, dear passers-by,
And you who do my tombstone see
Be kind to say a prayer for me.

- Richard Ravenal's epitaph

At Ravenal's Tower outside Ivybridge in Kent is the perplexing tomb of Richard Ravenal (1720 - 1779), said to have been cursed so that he could be buried neither by earth nor sea. Ravenal’s body thus resides in an octagonal room halfway up his tower.

Source materialEdit

Ravenal's Tower is from Edith Nesbit's The Wouldbegoods (1901), of the Bastable series of children's novels.
