Lilliput and Blefuscu are two island nations located in the South Indian Ocean, separated by a channel eight hundred yards wide. Both are inhabited by tiny people who are "not six inches high", i.e., about one-twelfth the height of ordinary human beings. Both kingdoms are empires, i.e. realms ruled by a self-styled emperor. The capital of Lilliput is Mildendo.

In the early 18th Century, Lemuel Gulliver was shipwrecked on the island of Lilliput and became involved with the meaningless political affairs and war between Lilliput and Blefuscu. Gulliver soon left Lilliput and later returned to Lilliput with his Fellowship after nearly a century for a visit, which the tiny inhabitants were obviously shocked of their appearance. Given from Gulliver's observation, Lilliput had changed so much from his last visit, which the Lilliputians have swifter, briefer lives than normal size humans, so that many generations has passed and that Gulliver's first visit was forgotten or else considered as a legend. Gulliver and his fellowship left Lilliput from causing any further panic upon the Lilliputians.

In 1799, the year which Gulliver had passed away, his Fellowship followed his last wishes to bury him on Lilliput.
