The City of the Happy Prince is a European rundown town. It has a neglected Jewish quarter, its sole monument an empty plinth in the town square where formerly stood the statue of the Happy Prince himself. The statue was decorated with gems until they were picked by a bird in the late 19th century, it was torn down by the city councilors for its wretched state.

In 1912, Mina Murray and Allan Quatermain briefly visited the City of the Happy Prince; the former was very disappointed to be mislead of the town's namesake.

Source materialEdit
